Aircraft

The aircraft you fly on.

12 of the airliners most passengers board: how many seats they carry and how they are laid out, how far they go, which airlines fly the most of them, and their safety record.

Every figure comes from the manufacturer, the type certificate, the airline or the accident investigators, and every page says when it was checked.

Asked and answered

Where do these figures come from?

From the manufacturers' own fact sheets and airport-planning documents, the EASA and FAA type certificates, airline fleet and seat pages, and the official accident reports. Every page lists its sources and the date they were checked.

Why does my airline's seat count differ from the one here?

Airlines choose their own cabins. The seat map on each page is the manufacturer's reference layout, and the airline table beside it shows what the biggest operators actually fit — your flight may be different again.

What does the maximum seat figure mean?

It is the exit limit on the type certificate: the most passengers the aircraft may carry given its doors and evacuation tests. No airline flies anywhere near it with a premium cabin fitted.
