# Airbus A220-300

The A220-300 is the larger of the two A220 models, a clean-sheet single-aisle jet first developed by Bombardier as the CS300 and taken over by Airbus in 2018\. Its five-abreast cabin gives most passengers a window or aisle seat, and airlines typically fit 120 to 150 seats. It is powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1500G geared turbofans.

## Seats and cabin layout

Airbus quotes 120–150 seats in a typical 2-class layout. The type certificate allows at most 149 passengers — the exit limit, which no airline with a premium cabin comes near.

## Safety record

Every fatal accident and hull loss involving the A220-300, with the investigators' report where one is published. The complete record, minor incidents included, is kept by the [Aviation Safety Network](https://aviation-safety.net/asndb/type/BCS3).

## Asked and answered

### How many seats does the A220-300 have?

Airbus quotes 120 to 150 seats in a typical two-class layout. Its European type certificate currently allows up to 149 passengers; airlines such as Air France (148) and JetBlue (140) fly it in a mostly single-cabin layout, while Delta fits 130 seats across three cabins.

### Which airlines fly the A220-300?

According to Airbus's delivery data at the end of August 2026, the largest A220-300 operators were JetBlue, Breeze Airways, Air France, airBaltic and Delta Air Lines. airBaltic was the first airline to fly it, in December 2016.

### Is the A220-300 safe?

The A220-300 has no accident causing passenger deaths. In December 2024 a Swiss A220-300 diverted to Graz after an engine malfunction filled the cabin with smoke, and a cabin crew member died a week later; in 2025 an airBaltic aircraft was written off after a fire during maintenance on the ground, with no injuries.

### How far can the A220-300 fly?

Airbus gives a maximum range of about 6,300 km (3,400 nautical miles), the same figure it quotes for the larger A320neo. Most airlines use it on short and medium-haul routes.
